When you think about holidaying in Egypt what do you imagine? Trips to ancient monuments, mummies, sarcophagi, the sphinx’? What about Kite Surfing? Yes you read it right; Kite Surfing has become a major part of Egypt’s tourism industry over the last few years with Ras Sudr, a town just a couple of hours from Cairo, at the forefront of this growing trend. So why has Ras Sudr become a Kite Surfers paradise? Well the main reason is it geothermic properties and the effect they have on the winds there, but there is also the not so small matter of the miles of soft sandy beaches and cool calm lagoons. Around Ras Sudr there tends to be steady, medium strength thermal winds almost every day making it ideal for Kite Surfing novices and as a practise area for more accomplished surfer to try out new and more daring tricks. Furthermore the sand tends to be pretty much free from rocks and coral vastly reducing your chance of injury.
